Politics rule the news. The big question being debated, was the Crewe by election a permanent shift or a protest vote? Perhaps aspiration is an important word in all this. New Labour came into power promising so much, 'education, education, education...'

The published figures indicate that literacy has not improved. The hospitals are struggling with targets and superbugs. To top it off taxation for lower income earners has increased.

The Conservatives are promising a change which implies hope. Their initial economic policies were hijacked by Labour. Boris is in charge of London and making noises about preserving the sight of London landmarks and importantly for me, allowing motorbikes in bus lanes.

It may not be logical but the general feel of the two parties signals a shift. Gordon looks as if he's sunk into the doldrums and David is perky, upbeat and energised. Why would anyone who is undecided vote for a party which appears to have retreated into it's shell?

For the record, I am not a Conservative voter but they look very attractive, and that's half the battle, nowadays.
